About the position

Emerus is seeking a full-time Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist to provide technical assistance and supportive patient care in our small-format hospital. This position involves the collection and analysis of laboratory specimens, ensuring compliance with laboratory protocols and procedures, and acting as a general supervisor over assigned lab activities. The role requires collaboration with clinical departments to provide integrated laboratory services and assist with patient care activities within the scope of state regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks, duties and/or complex tests in all areas of the laboratory according to established protocols.
  • Collect and process specimens utilizing protocols and technical knowledge.
  • Perform quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting protocols for instruments and reagents.
  • Validate and deliver results of tests performed and assist with technical troubleshooting and quality assurance issues.
  • Follow established safety practices including biohazards and infection control measures.
  • Assist with performing proficiency testing and corrective actions when necessary.
  • Develop collaboration among clinical departments to ensure integrated laboratory services.
  • Coordinate and perform all pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic laboratory activities.
  • Assist with patient care activities including phlebotomy, IV starts, and vital signs monitoring.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records.
  • Provide and maintain a clean, safe environment and perform proper aseptic techniques.
  • Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological/Physical Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Minimum of 6 years core lab experience for Pittsburgh Market.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist (MLS/MLT) for Las Vegas Market.
  • Valid State of Nevada license Laboratory General Supervisor or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum of 3 years lab experience in non-waived specialties of a clinical laboratory.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with IV start, phlebotomy, and initiation of EKG.
