About the position

The Senior Medical Technologist at Allegheny Health Network is responsible for performing routine and complex laboratory analyses on clinical specimens. This role involves assisting lab management with daily operations, ensuring quality clinical information, and mentoring new staff. The position requires a high level of expertise in laboratory procedures and instrumentation, as well as compliance with ethical and legal standards.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of routine and complex procedures using established criteria to provide quality clinical information.
• Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and linearity for test methods.
• Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation.
• Troubleshoots problems with quality controls and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information.
• Serves as a consultant to laboratory personnel and other health care providers, as needed.
• Participates in continuing education to ensure growth and development of the laboratory.
• May collect and process patient specimens in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures and within the expected time frames.
• May mentor MT/MLT, phlebotomy, and lab processor students and new hires in laboratory testing following AHN policies and procedures.
• Communicates with manager, supervisor or co-workers concerning the needs of the laboratory including supplies for efficient laboratory operations.
• Assumes supervisory duties, as assigned, in the absence of the immediate supervisor.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in ASCP eligible program or successful completion of HEW exam.
• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) OR Medical Technologist (MT) within one year of hire.
• 3 to 5 years of clinical laboratory experience.
