About the position

The Sault Tribe Health Division is seeking a Medical Technologist to join their team. This position is essential for evaluating requested procedures, preparing specimens for analysis, and implementing specimen collection and preparation procedures. The Medical Technologist will also provide education to nursing staff and instruct medical technologists, technicians, and nurses in proper techniques and equipment use. The role involves performing routine and specialized tests, conducting quality control procedures, and maintaining instruments. Additionally, the Medical Technologist will participate in health instruction for clinic patients and community groups, and develop guidelines and quality control standards.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates requested procedures to determine the suitability of specimen for analysis.
  • Prepares specimens for analysis, ensuring the physiologic state of the properties is maintained.
  • Implements specimen collection and preparation procedures and provides education to nursing staff.
  • Instructs medical technologists, medical technicians, nurses, and others in techniques and equipment use.
  • Performs routine and specialized tests.
  • Evaluates referred testing.
  • Conducts quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products.
  • Calibrates, standardizes, adjusts, and maintains instruments.
  • Verifies correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks.
  • Identifies the cause of common problems and makes repairs.
  • Participates in providing health instruction to clinic patients and community groups.
  • Plans and carries out work, adapting techniques as necessary.
  • Develops guidelines, including quality control standards, and writes procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology with ASCP board certification required.
  • Three years of medical technology work experience preferred.
  • ACSP-MT Certification required.
  • Must undergo and successfully pass a background check.
  • Must maintain a good moral character standing.
  • Must complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.
  • Professional knowledge of medical technology principles and concepts.
  • Knowledge of mathematical and statistical processes sufficient to calculate and convert analytical data.
  • Knowledge and skill sufficient to use and maintain complicated instruments.
  • Knowledge of technical, physiologic, and mechanical indicators of malfunction.
  • Knowledge of related disciplines to integrate and correlate test results.
  • Must maintain privacy and confidentiality.
