About the position

The position involves performing chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests to provide data for the treatment and diagnosis of diseases. The role requires applying techniques from various fields including microbiology, histo-pathology, hematology, diagnostic immunology, immunohematology, chemistry, and morphological examinations. The individual will be responsible for conducting laboratory testing, organizing workflow, and ensuring the accuracy and credibility of results before release. Additionally, the position entails problem-solving to achieve acceptable test results and maintaining optimal system and instrument operations.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts laboratory testing and implements actions based on standard operating procedures.
  • Organizes workflow for efficient and accurate output, reviews and verifies results for accuracy prior to release.
  • Records and reports results in a timely manner.
  • Problem-solves to achieve acceptable test results and ensures optimal system and instrument operations.
  • Interprets and verifies lab findings with respect to specimen quality and correlates test results with clinical information.
  • Analyzes and evaluates testing processes to assure valid and accurate final results.
  • Maintains and updates technical knowledge and skills through participation in meetings and continuing education.
  • Assists in developing operational procedures for effective workflow.
  • Serves as a resource for automated equipment and decision-making in standard operations.
  • Coordinates laboratory operations in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Ensures compliance with Quality Control and Quality Assurance Programs and addresses quality of service issues.
  • Takes corrective action to resolve problems and reviews unresolved issues with a supervisor.
  • May serve as Testing Personnel for High Complexity Testing as defined by CLIA 88, responsible for specimen processing and reporting test results.
  • Performs proficiency testing and reports results.
  • Advises providers and nursing personnel on correct specimen collection and processing procedures.
  • Assists in training technical students and new technologist employees.
  • Assists in developing technical procedures and writing training procedures, reviewing new procedures developed by others.
  • Detects and repairs subtle instrument and reagent problems.

Requirements

  • Experience in laboratory testing and procedures in microbiology, histo-pathology, hematology, diagnostic immunology, immunohematology, chemistry, or morphological examinations.
  • Knowledge of Quality Control and Quality Assurance Programs.
  • Ability to interpret and verify lab findings and correlate them with clinical information.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to maintain optimal system operations.
  • Experience in training and developing technical procedures.
