About the position

The position is for a laboratory professional in Ganado, AZ, within a tribal organization. The role involves performing and monitoring a variety of laboratory testing and analyses, ensuring quality control, and maintaining equipment with minimal supervision. The candidate will be responsible for conducting waived, moderate, and high complexity testing to support quality patient care, while also communicating effectively with the healthcare team and co-workers. The job requires adherence to laboratory procedures for specimen handling, testing analyses, and maintaining patient test records. The candidate will work across various laboratory sections, including Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, and CLIA waved Point of Care Testing, ensuring competency and timely performance in all areas.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and monitor a variety of laboratory testing and analyses.
  • Assume responsibility for problem resolution, quality control, and routine equipment maintenance with minimal supervision.
  • Perform waived, moderate and high complexity testing to contribute to the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Communicate with the healthcare team and co-workers.
  • Create and maintain a safe environment for self, co-workers and facility.
  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, testing analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Maintain records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test results and correct them or notify the appropriate supervisor.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Provide good customer service skills with both providers and patients.
  • Work in all sections of the laboratory at acceptable levels of competency and in a timely manner.
  • Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures according to the procedure manuals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Technology or other relevant science.
  • Must have 60 semester hours including 24 hours of science that includes 6 hours of chemistry, 6 hours of biology, and 12 hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technologist in any combination.
  • For individuals outside of the United States, a translation of the education (equivalency statement) must be obtained.
  • Must possess a valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must obtain certification as an MT or MLS with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) preferred or American Medical Technologist (AMT) preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully pass the Employee Health Program requirements and background investigation.
