About the position

The Medication Aide at Stoughton Meadows Assisted Living is responsible for administering prescribed medications and treatments to residents in accordance with state regulations. This role involves observing residents during medication administration, documenting effects, and communicating any concerns to the Wellness Director or designated personnel. The position emphasizes adherence to resident rights, HIPAA policies, and infection control procedures while providing emotional support to residents.

Responsibilities

  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments to residents in compliance with state regulations.
  • Observes residents taking medication and notes any effects, including unexpected or adverse reactions.
  • Documents required information in residents' medication administration records.
  • Communicates concerns or observations to the Wellness Director or designated personnel.
  • Respects residents' rights to refuse medication and investigates reasons for refusal.
  • Utilizes Standard Precautions and follows infection control procedures consistently.
  • Responds promptly to requests for PRN medications and observes their effectiveness.
  • Performs regular medication cart audits to ensure supplies are stocked and medications are not expired.
  • Protects residents' rights and confidential information according to laws.
  • Provides social and emotional support to residents, encouraging their independence.
  • Reports signs of resident abuse or neglect and takes immediate action to prevent harm.
  • Interacts respectfully with residents and families, referring concerns to the Wellness Director.
  • Reports and documents all medication errors promptly.
  • Performs and documents controlled substances counts as required.
  • Documents and disposes of expired medications in compliance with regulations.
  • Participates in Wellness team meetings and utilizes care plans in daily activities.
  • Completes required annual training and promotes self-development.
  • Assists with other shift duties and resident care as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certifications.
  • Completion of state-approved Caregiver program as required by state regulation.
  • Ability to speak and understand the English language.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, and visitors.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergencies.
  • Well-groomed and professional demeanor.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior direct care and/or Medication Aide experience preferred.
