About the position
The Mental Health Associate in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Saint Clare's Health plays a crucial role in supporting the mental health needs of patients under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. This position involves providing therapeutic interventions, assisting with daily living activities, and ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for patients. The associate will work closely with the interdisciplinary care team to communicate patient information and monitor progress throughout treatment.
Responsibilities
- Assist licensed nursing staff in providing and documenting patient care.
- Perform therapeutic interventions such as group therapy and one-on-one counseling.
- Support unit functions and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.
- Communicate pertinent patient information to the supervising RN.
- Perform clerical duties as assigned and provide basic nursing care.
- Utilize education to provide designated group modalities to patients.
- Provide emotional support to patients during difficult times.
- Monitor patients' progress throughout treatment and ensure compliance with care plans.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Current BCLS (AHA) certification within 30 days of hire and maintain current certification.
- Behavioral Violence Prevention training within 6 months of hire and maintain current annually.
- One year prior mental health experience preferred.
- Familiarity with medical and psychological terminology preferred.
