About the position

The Mental Health Professional (MHP) for the Crisis Co-Response Program plays a critical role in responding to mental health crises alongside law enforcement officers. The MHP assesses and de-escalates crises, coordinates care, and advocates for individuals in need, ensuring they receive appropriate support and resources. This position requires a strong commitment to community service and the ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations.

Responsibilities

  • Accompany CIT trained police officers to police dispatches related to mental health crises.
  • Complete assessments for individuals in crisis and develop appropriate service plans.
  • Provide linkages to community supports and supportive counseling.
  • Complete all required documentation including intakes, progress notes, and discharge plans.
  • Advocate for individuals with outside agencies and maintain communication with families.
  • Intervene in crisis situations using evidence-based approaches.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and participate in interdisciplinary team updates.
  • Conduct fire drills and building inspections for safety compliance.
  • Provide counseling and support to individuals to encourage their recovery.
  • Collaborate with the team to promote a culture of respect and self-determination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a human service field with five years of mental health experience, or a master's degree with three years of experience, or a bachelor's degree in nursing with three years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Excellent judgment and problem-solving abilities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform CPR and crisis intervention using agency-trained protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Basic experience with Microsoft Office applications and electronic health records.
  • Valid driver's license with three years of driving experience.

  • Familiarity with local social service agencies and resources.
