About the position

The Mental Health Program Director-B (Community Services Supervisor) position at the State of Louisiana is a vital role within the Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority (JPHSA), dedicated to providing quality behavioral health, developmental disabilities, and primary care services. This position is responsible for directing special services programs in a large mental health region or human services district, ensuring that the needs of mentally and emotionally ill individuals are met through effective program management and coordination. The director will oversee a range of services, including community support services and specialized programs for various populations such as the elderly, children, and those involved in the criminal justice system. In this role, the director will provide consultation and technical assistance to professional staff, monitor compliance with standards and policies, and develop plans for service delivery. The position requires a strong understanding of mental health treatment and the ability to resolve complex clinical issues. The director will also be responsible for evaluating program performance, making budget recommendations, and providing staff development and training programs to enhance the skills of the workforce. The ideal candidate will possess a master's degree in a relevant field, such as psychology or social work, along with significant professional experience in mental health treatment. Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and directs all special services elements within a large mental health region.
  • Provides consultation and technical assistance regarding special services programs.
  • Monitors contract programs and facilities for compliance with standards and policies.
  • Determines the need and types of services for mentally and/or emotionally ill persons and develops plans for professional help.
  • Determines organizational requirements for personnel, buildings, materials, and equipment necessary to operate special services programs.
  • Interprets agency policy and provides direction to Office of Mental Health staff.
  • Resolves complex clinical issues in the operations of special services programs.
  • Evaluates and analyzes programmatic performance through site monitoring.
  • Confers and coordinates services with social, health, and correctional agencies in the region.
  • Provides staff development, in-service training, and employee education programs.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in psychology, social work, sociology, counseling, health services, or a related field.
  • Four years of professional level experience providing mental health treatment.
  • Licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW) may be required.
  • Graduate training beyond the master's degree may substitute for one year of required experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Regulation as a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) or Certified Social Worker (CSW) is preferred.
  • Experience in managing special services programs is a plus.
