The Mental Health Specialist I position at Nationwide Children's Hospital is a vital role within the Psychiatric Child Unit, specifically designed for night shifts from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with a commitment to work every other weekend. This position is part-time, offering either 0.6 (24 hours) or 0.8 (32 hours) Full-Time Equivalent (FTE). The starting pay for this role is $19.387 per hour, with additional compensation for night shifts and weekend work. The Mental Health Specialist is responsible for providing basic supportive and Trauma Informed care to pediatric patients and their families under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Care Manager. This includes creating a safe and therapeutic environment, assisting with daily living activities, and intervening during crises. The role requires the collection and documentation of vital patient data, while also ensuring that care is delivered in a manner that is sensitive to the developmental needs of children. In this position, the Mental Health Specialist will engage with an interdisciplinary team to support specialized patient care activities. This includes reinforcing positive behaviors, establishing therapeutic relationships, and utilizing Trauma Informed Care principles. The specialist will also assist in the admission and discharge processes, provide basic hygiene and nutritional support, and perform various clinical procedures such as specimen collection and basic dressing changes.
