About the position

The Mental Health Specialist II at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) plays a crucial role in providing support and services to clients through the Lifeline National Backup Center. This part-time position involves assessing client needs, offering therapeutic interactions, and facilitating recovery-oriented skills training. The specialist is responsible for advocating for resources and maintaining relationships with clients to monitor their emotional and behavioral changes, ensuring they receive appropriate interventions and referrals.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with clients in a therapeutic manner.
  • Model good communication skills, recovery-oriented living skills, effective coping skills, and self-help strategies.
  • Assist clients in identifying personal recovery goals and setting objectives for each goal.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients to identify emotional, psychiatric, or behavioral changes.
  • Advocate for appropriate resources for clients based on assessed needs.
  • Facilitate structured skill trainings such as social skills, assertiveness, anger management, and psycho-education.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time paid experience in an appropriate mental health or human service field or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant mental health or human service field.
