About the position

The Mental Health Specialist II position at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) involves providing support and services to clients of the 988 Lifeline Services. The role focuses on assessing client needs through various communication methods, including phone, chat, and text, and offering appropriate referrals and support. The specialist is expected to model effective communication and recovery-oriented skills, assist clients in identifying their recovery goals, and advocate for necessary resources based on assessed needs.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with clients in a therapeutic manner.
  • Model good communication skills, recovery-oriented living skills, effective coping skills, and self-help strategies for clients.
  • Assist clients in identifying personal recovery goals and setting objectives for each goal.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients to identify emotional, psychiatric, or behavioral changes that may require further intervention.
  • Help clients effectively address problems and refer them to appropriate clinical staff as needed.
  • Advocate for appropriate resources for clients and third parties based on assessed needs.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time paid experience in an appropriate mental health or human service field or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant mental health or human service field.
