About the position

The Metallurgy Inspector position at Timken Company in Lebanon, NH, offers a unique opportunity to join a leading aerospace division within a globally recognized manufacturing team. This role is essential in ensuring the quality and reliability of materials used in the production of bearings and components. As a Metallurgy Inspector, you will be responsible for performing a variety of inspection duties, including sample specimen preparation, testing procedures, and documentation of raw and in-process materials, all while adhering to established procedures. Your work will directly contribute to the efficiency and reliability of machinery that keeps industries in motion. In this role, you will conduct raw and in-process material tests, interpreting vendor material certifications and utilizing bench tools such as sanders, cutters, and various washes to prepare and test materials. You will work from specifications, prints, and instructions to determine test results using dial indicators, meters, gauges, and visual checks. Additionally, you will be tasked with cutting and sectioning samples of metals and other materials, performing in-process metallurgical inspections according to customer specifications, and auditing heat treat production cycles daily. Collaboration is key in this position, as you will interface with engineering and inspection teams regarding special testing requirements. You will also perform hardness, distortion, and other tests, assist in the calibration of metallurgical equipment, and maintain accurate records of your findings. The role requires a strong attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, and a commitment to following safety protocols. You will be expected to maintain a clean and orderly work environment while detecting and reporting any issues related to equipment or materials.

Responsibilities

  • Perform raw and in-process material tests, interpreting vendor materials certifications.
  • Use bench tools such as sander, cutter, and various washes to prepare and test materials.
  • Work from specifications, prints, and instructions to determine test results using dial indicators, meters, gauges, and visual checks.
  • Cut, section, and obtain samples or specimens of metals and other materials for testing.
  • Perform in-process metallurgical inspections according to customer specifications and audit heat treat production cycles daily.
  • Interface with engineering and inspection areas concerning special testing requirements.
  • Perform hardness, distortion, and other tests as required.
  • Assist in the performance of metallurgical calibrations and special purpose equipment processes.
  • Record appropriate data on designated forms as required and assist in training employees as needed.
  • Maintain necessary records and ensure a clean and orderly work area.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Basic mathematical and mechanical skills are required.
  • Basic computer interface skills are required.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task and coordinate work activities efficiently.
  • Ability to follow written and prescribed work instructions/procedures and tasks.
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications, acceptance criteria, and engineering drawings.
  • Situational/spatial awareness and strict adherence to PPE/safety protocols.
