About the position

The Microbiology Technical Manager at EMSL Analytical, Inc. will support the laboratory manager in providing technical expertise in a diverse microbiology laboratory. This role involves overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring quality assurance practices, and interacting with clients and staff to meet the needs of various industries.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Laboratory Manager in providing technical support in a diverse microbiology laboratory.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed.
  • Implement the QA/QC Program and Standard Operating Procedures within the laboratory.
  • Ensure QA/QC practices are followed in accordance with company policies and internal Quality Management System.
  • Interact with clients on technical issues and collaborate with the sales team.
  • Support a staff of technicians and analysts of varying levels.
  • Maintain accreditations and certifications held by the laboratory, interacting with auditors as necessary.
  • Add additional test methods to the lab as dictated by client needs.
  • Be hands-on in the laboratory with the staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in mycology/microbiology/bacteriology; a graduate degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant analytical experience.
  • Ability to enumerate, identify, and confirm a wide variety of bacteria and fungi.
  • Experience with air samples, surface samples, food testing, bacteriology, and mycology is desirable.
  • Proficient in common lab procedures with previous commercial lab experience.
  • Ability to distinguish colors for analysis purposes.
  • Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Good computer skills, including typing, MS Office, and Excel.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet short deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in environmental microbiology, food microbiology, and water microbiology.
  • Familiarity with microbial and bioaerosol analysis methods.
