The Mid-Level Archaeologist position at WSP USA involves conducting archaeological investigations and managing projects across the southwestern United States. The role requires collaboration with various public and private clients on environmental projects, focusing on cultural resource management, compliance with NEPA and NHPA, and the preparation of documentation and proposals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in archaeology and a commitment to quality and professional growth.

  • Conduct field and desktop archaeology investigations and prepare reports.
  • Schedule, manage, and conduct fieldwork and documentation associated with archaeological projects.
  • Contribute to the development of NEPA-compliant documentation.
  • Collaborate with project teams and clients in public and private sectors, handling concurrent assignments.
  • Work with federal and state agencies to develop and implement Programmatic Agreements.
  • Travel throughout the southwestern United States, approximately 30% overnight travel.
  • Prepare proposals for internal and external clients.
  • BA/BS degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field (MS/MA preferred).
  • 3 - 5+ years of professional experience in archaeological and historic preservation plans.
  • Meet Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology.
  • Ability to be added to archaeological permits on state, federal, and tribal lands in the U.S. Southwest.
  • 3+ years experience with NEPA compliance.
  • Working knowledge of NHPA, Section 106 compliance, and general archaeological practices.
  • Knowledge of State Historic Preservation Act and Arizona Antiquities Act.
  • Experience with local, state, and federal projects.
  • Knowledge of Southwestern archaeology, anthropology, history, and historic preservation.
  • Ability to analyze technical reports regarding cultural resources and land ownership.
  • Ability to coordinate archaeological mitigation measures for cultural resource preservation.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and technological proficiency with databases and field data collection programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with project teams and clients.
  • Capability to prepare proposals for clients.
  • Ability to grow, mentor, and manage small teams of archaeologists.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Field maps preferred.
