About the position

The Mid-Level Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer position at WSP involves working within a multidisciplinary team focused on diverse global projects in environmental infrastructure, renewable energy, and industrial facilities. The role emphasizes collaboration, technical excellence, and professional growth, with responsibilities including the development of I&C design documents and compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the mentorship of a Senior Engineer.
  • Develop I&C design documents such as design drawings and technical specifications.
  • Ensure project schedules and budgets are met efficiently.
  • Collaborate in cross-discipline teams to achieve project goals.
  • Conduct quality reviews for engineering documents and specifications.
  • Review vendor drawings and interface with suppliers and clients.
  • Participate in the development and design review of piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Prepare control deliverables including Control Narratives and Wiring Diagrams.
  • Perform instrument sizing calculations and selection.
  • Prepare Instrumentation Datasheets for instruments and valves.
  • Develop programming for controls equipment, including PLCs and HMIs.
  • Participate in client and project review meetings.
  • Prepare technical bid evaluations and attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
  • Collaborate with project management to develop budgets and schedules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program.
  • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience in I&C engineering.
  • Basic knowledge of design standards such as API, NFPA, ISA, and IEEE.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and Projects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and seek assistance when necessary.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites (approximately 10% travel).
  • Must pass a background check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Engineer in Training Certification and ability to obtain a PE.
  • Prior design experience in Design-Build project execution.
  • Competence in AutoCAD, Revit, or other design programs.
  • Experience with mining, oil and gas, water treatment, and municipal facilities projects.
