About the position

The Technical Writer will play a crucial role in collaborating with engineers, subject matter experts, and product managers to gather and understand technical requirements. This position involves creating and maintaining various types of documentation that are essential for the smooth operation and understanding of technical processes within the company. The documentation will include Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Technical Support Guides, Work Instructions, High-Level and Low-Level Diagrams, Specification Sheets, and Process Documentation. Each of these documents serves a specific purpose, from providing step-by-step instructions for common tasks to offering detailed breakdowns of system components and functionality. In addition to writing and maintaining documentation, the Technical Writer will develop and utilize visual aids such as diagrams, flowcharts, and screenshots to enhance the clarity and usability of the documentation. It is essential that all documentation aligns with the company's style guides and quality standards to ensure consistency and professionalism. The role also requires participation in product development and testing cycles to gain in-depth product knowledge, which will inform the documentation process. Furthermore, the Technical Writer will be responsible for managing a documentation repository and version control systems, ensuring that all documents are up-to-date and easily accessible to relevant stakeholders. This position offers a competitive hourly rate of $48 and an annual salary of $100,000, reflecting the importance of the role within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers, subject matter experts, and product managers to gather and understand technical requirements.
  • Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for common tasks and processes.
  • Develop Technical Support Guides for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
  • Write Work Instructions for specific tasks or procedures.
  • Design High-Level Diagrams to provide overviews of system design and architecture.
  • Create Low-Level Diagrams detailing components, interfaces, and functionality.
  • Prepare Specification Sheets summarizing product features and technical specifications.
  • Document business, manufacturing, or development processes through Process Documentation.
  • Utilize visual aids like diagrams, flowcharts, and screenshots to enhance documentation clarity.
  • Ensure all documentation aligns with company style guides and quality standards.
  • Participate in product development and testing cycles to gain in-depth product knowledge.
  • Manage a documentation repository and version control systems.

Requirements

  • 4 years of experience as a Technical Writer in an Information Technology environment.
  • Proven ability to write clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation for SOPs.
  • Great written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and documentation tools (e.g., MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, Confluence).
  • Willingness to go on-site 3 days a week and work 2 days in a hybrid model in a hoteling style environment.
  • Possess a secret clearance and willingness to obtain TS/SCI.
