About the position

The Middle School Language Arts Teacher position at McKenzie County Public School District #1 is designed to foster students' skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the teacher will develop and implement a comprehensive English education curriculum that aligns with the district's goals and objectives. The role emphasizes creating a safe and conducive classroom environment that supports individualized and small group instruction, thereby enhancing student learning outcomes. The teacher will be responsible for developing lesson plans and instructional materials that translate into engaging learning experiences. This includes teaching essential knowledge and skills in English grammar, syntax, composition, vocabulary, and creative writing. The teacher will also facilitate group discussions to promote critical analysis of various reading materials, including literature and mass media. Continuous assessment of student learning and progress is crucial, and the teacher will adapt instructional methods to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with special needs. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the teacher will maintain accurate records of student activities, achievements, and attendance, ensuring compliance with district procedures and applicable laws. Encouraging parental involvement and effective communication with students and parents is also a key aspect of the role. The teacher will collaborate with other staff members, participate in faculty meetings, and contribute to the overall educational environment of the school. The position requires a commitment to professional development, with opportunities for attending seminars and workshops to stay updated on current educational practices. The teacher will also be involved in selecting appropriate instructional materials and maintaining inventory records. Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer English education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences.
  • Teach knowledge and skills in English grammar and syntax, sentence and paragraph structure, composition, vocabulary and proper word usage, creative writing, and communication.
  • Develop standards for critical analysis through group discussions on a variety of reading materials.
  • Work with students to prepare materials for inclusion in literary publications and contests.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifying instructional methods as needed.
  • Maintain familiarity with district and North Dakota State standardized tests to adapt curriculum accordingly.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, or research.
  • Organize and maintain accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure student conduct conforms to school standards and establish a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Coordinate with other professional staff members and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, and maintain inventory records.

Requirements

  • North Dakota State Certification as a Language Arts Education Teacher.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
  • Successful prior teaching experiences in Language Arts is a plus.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, spelling, literature, and other content areas taught.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data information systems and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
