About the position

The Mobile Mechanic for the Northeastern Territory specializes in servicing and repairing heavy-haul trucks, including tractor-trailers, semi-trucks, and bucket trucks. This role is crucial for maintaining optimal working conditions of heavy-haul trucks to ensure safe operation and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The mechanic operates in a mobile capacity, traveling to various locations for truck breakdowns or maintenance needs.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to the location of heavy-haul truck breakdowns, accidents, or scheduled maintenance calls.
  • Assess the vehicle's condition and perform on-site repairs and maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy-haul trucks.
  • Troubleshoot problems efficiently and accurately.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, brake adjustments, tire replacements, and fluid checks.
  • Conduct complex repairs, overhauls, and major component replacements, such as engines, transmissions, and axles.
  • Utilize specialized tools and equipment to complete repairs.
  • Perform welding and fabrication work as needed to repair or modify truck components.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including lighting, wiring, and onboard computer systems.
  • Inspect and repair hydraulic systems, including lifts, dump beds, and other specialized equipment.
  • Maintain detailed records of all repairs, inspections, and maintenance work performed.
  • Complete service reports, work orders, and parts inventory documentation.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Keep up-to-date with changing regulations and standards that affect heavy-haul trucks.
  • Interact with customers, providing them with information about the repair process and estimated completion times.
  • Maintain good customer relations.
  • Keep all tools, equipment, and the mobile service vehicle in good working condition.
  • Perform regular maintenance and keep an inventory of necessary spare parts.
  • Operate heavy-haul vehicles to transport equipment, parts, and tools to job sites.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a heavy-haul vehicle mechanic with in-depth knowledge of heavy vehicle systems and components.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, computer software, and specialized equipment for heavy-vehicle repair.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a mobile environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and a commitment to safety in all work activities.
  • Valid CDL license is required.
