About the position

The Monitor Technician & Unit Secretary in the ICU at Sutter Coast Hospital is a vital role responsible for providing comprehensive clerical support to the nursing unit and physician staff. This position is integral to maintaining a customer-focused, service-oriented environment that aligns with the values of Sutter Health, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to regulations. The technician is trained and/or certified in basic cardiac monitoring, which involves continuous observation of cardiac rhythms and promptly reporting any changes to the appropriate healthcare staff. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities including chart management, data collection, forms management, and processing admissions, discharges, and transfers, as well as facilitating departmental communication as required. In addition to clerical duties, the Monitor Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring patient safety and privacy by adhering to all local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures. The position requires a proactive approach to recognizing emergency situations and taking appropriate actions. The technician must possess strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with team members, supervisors, patients, and other personnel. Advanced knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health records (EHR) systems like EPIC, is essential for success in this role. The ability to interpret various forms of data and instructions, prioritize assignments, and work independently or as part of a team is critical in this fast-paced environment. The position requires a commitment to building collaborative relationships with peers and other staff members to achieve departmental and corporate objectives. The technician will also be responsible for ensuring the privacy of each patient's protected health information (PHI) and may be involved in handling hazardous drugs as identified by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical support to the assigned nursing unit and physician staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification within 30 days.
  • EKG-EKG Certification within 30 days.
  • 1 year of recent relevant experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic patient care skills and medical terminology.
  • Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and electronic health records (EHR) systems like EPIC.
  • Ability to interpret data and instructions in various formats.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
