About the position

The Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) at Spectrum News is responsible for uncovering and reporting on local stories that matter to the community. This role involves engaging with community members, pitching, writing, shooting, interviewing, and editing news content across various platforms, including television and digital media. The MMJ plays a crucial role in delivering timely and accurate news coverage while maintaining a work-life balance in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with community members to uncover and report on local stories.
  • Pitch, write, shoot, interview, and edit news content across multiple platforms.
  • Collaborate with a team to create compelling and accurate news coverage.
  • Work under tight deadlines and adapt to breaking news situations.
  • Travel to various locations to cover important stories in the community.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in television news reporting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or comparable television work experience.
  • Ability to shoot videos and understand video editing software.
  • Effective communication skills on camera and through writing.
  • Innate curiosity and urgency in creating compelling stories.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license for authorized driving in the state of residence.
