About the position

As a National Account Chief Underwriter for Group Benefits, you will play a pivotal role in managing the underwriting process for Group Life and Disability insurance for National Accounts, which encompasses 5,000 or more lives. This position is not just about numbers; it’s about building relationships and ensuring that our clients receive the coverage they need to protect what matters most to them. You will be responsible for all aspects of pre and post-sale underwriting, including profit management, renewal processing, and policy issuance and changes for your assigned business segment. Your technical proficiency in underwriting guidelines and risk management philosophy will be crucial in making informed decisions that align with our company’s goals. In this role, you will actively engage with internal and external business partners, driving project work and special assignments that contribute to our service goals. You will quote new business opportunities for core products and underwrite renewals, working closely with sales representatives and brokers to address new business, renewals, and service issues. Your advanced understanding of pricing elements, including risk factors, retention, and reinsurance, will enable you to negotiate effectively and make sound underwriting decisions. Additionally, you will mentor Regional Account underwriters and other staff members, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovative thinking and creative solutions. Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall Group Life & Disability underwriting for National Accounts (5,000 or more lives).
  • Oversee all pre and post-sale underwriting, profit management, renewal processing, and policy issuance for assigned business segments.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency in underwriting guidelines and risk management philosophy.
  • Establish and maintain solid relationships with internal and external business partners.
  • Drive and participate in project work and special assignments.
  • Quote new business opportunities for core products and underwrite renewals.
  • Collaborate with sales representatives and brokers on new business, renewals, and service issues.
  • Negotiate prices and benefits with sales representatives and brokers.
  • Mentor Regional Account underwriters and other staff members.
  • Leverage additional resources around key cases for better risk management and innovative solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 5 years of Group Benefits underwriting experience.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external business partners.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to think analytically about business problems and propose solutions.
  • High energy self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Solid time, organizational, and desk management skills.
  • Goal-oriented with a focus on delivering outcomes.
