About the position

Cogent Communications is seeking a National Account Manager to join our dynamic sales team in Santa Clara, CA. As a multinational, Tier 1 facilities-based Internet Service Provider (ISP), we pride ourselves on being one of the top five networks globally, providing high-speed Internet access and Ethernet transport services to businesses. Our all-optical IP network backbone spans over 206 markets worldwide, allowing us to offer large bandwidth connections at competitive prices while ensuring superior customer support through end-to-end control of service delivery and network monitoring. In this role, you will be responsible for hunting and identifying new business opportunities within the National Sales Territory, specifically targeting the Mid Market and non-named National Account segments, which include businesses with 500 to 999 employees. Your primary focus will be on direct outreach through calls, emails, and other contact methods to engage with key decision-makers. You will complement your prospecting efforts with fieldwork, including building walks, lobby events, and face-to-face meetings with customers. By leveraging consultative and relationship-building selling techniques, you will identify current and future connectivity solutions that meet the needs of our customers. Achieving monthly revenue goals is a critical aspect of this position, as you will be selling into some of the nation's largest commercial and retail buildings, office parks, and professional campuses. The compensation structure includes a generous base salary, uncapped commissions, and the potential for additional earnings based on performance. This is an in-office position, allowing for focused mentorship and personal coaching to support your professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Hunt to identify new business opportunities within the National Sales Territory focused on the Mid Market and non-named National Account target market segments.
  • Conduct direct calling, emailing, and other contact efforts to identify, qualify, and generate new business opportunities by working directly with key decision-makers.
  • Complement prospecting and selling efforts through fieldwork such as building walks, lobby events, property management relationships, and customer face-to-face meetings.
  • Leverage consultative and relationship-building selling techniques to identify current and future connectivity solutions for customers.
  • Achieve monthly revenue goals by selling into the nation's largest commercial and retail buildings, office parks, and professional campuses.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of solid sales experience, preferably B2B and in the technology field.
  • Previous sales experience with a track record of success is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, qualify, and generate new business through extensive prospecting and research.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment with revenue deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Office and a CRM is a plus.
  • A college degree is preferred but not required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the technology field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with consultative selling techniques.
