About the position

Our work depends on a SQL Database Administrator joining our IT Technology Development division within the NCIS ITD organization in Quantico, VA. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) is an organization of approximately 2,000 personnel of which 700 serve at HQ and the remaining staff serve at offices worldwide. NCIS is the DON component with primary responsibility for criminal investigation, law enforcement (LE), counter-terrorism (CT), counterintelligence (CI), and cyber matters. NCIS not only has primary responsibility for all criminal investigative, CI, CT, and cyber matters within the DON, but it also has exclusive investigative jurisdiction in non-combat matters involving actual, potential, or suspected criminal, terrorism, sabotage, espionage, and subversive activities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all current and planned SQL Server databases that support our customer's COTS applications.
  • Responsible for the operations and maintenance of these databases.
  • Design, plan, and implement additional databases as required in the future.
  • Apply STIGs to SQL Server databases and understand impacts on related applications.
  • Create related standards, operating procedures, and security documentation.
  • Monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and tune databases.
  • Administer and manage Microsoft SQL Server 2012-2019 and Microsoft SQL Reporting Services.
  • Familiar with SQL Always-on setup and management and Microsoft Failover Clustering.
  • Perform day-to-day monitoring and maintenance of SQL Server databases.
  • Develop, document, and apply procedures for database backup and recovery.
  • Participate in the analysis of database solutions.
  • Evaluate and install new software releases, patches, and system upgrades.
  • Identify and troubleshoot system issues.
  • Perform ACAS and SCAP scans and remediation.
  • Create and update user accounts, perform accounts management in Active Directory.
  • Support the Certification and Accreditation process.
  • Document, implement, and maintain database security policies.
  • Define and oversee database standards, controls, procedures, and documentation.

Requirements

  • Active Top Secret clearance; must be able to obtain a TS/SCI clearance once hired.
  • 5+ years of work experience administering MS SQL Server databases (SQL 2012 or newer).
  • Experience with Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption in SQL Server.
  • Experience administering SQL Server 2012-2019.
  • Required Certifications: Security+ CE.
  • Education: BS degree; additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • US Citizenship required.
