About the position

The Network Architect is part of building a smarter, safer and more connected Pittsburgh through doing impactful work helping secure and modernize critical city infrastructure. They will work on cutting-edge smart city and cloud initiatives. The Network Architect designs, implements, and maintains the City of Pittsburgh's network. They are responsible for ensuring that the network meets the organization's current and future needs, including security, reliability, performance, and scalability. The Network Architect creates documentation throughout the design and deployment process as a reference for future network enhancements or maintenance. After deployment, they also may manage the networks and troubleshoot any issues that arise. They analyze data traffic and system performance to determine future upgrades. This position receives supervision and management from the Senior Manager IT Infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Develops network architecture designs that align with the organization's goals and industry best practices.
  • Implements the network architecture.
  • Maintains the network infrastructure, engages with the Service Desk/Desktop Support regarding network-related tickets.
  • Provides technical leadership and guidance to network engineers and other infrastructure staff.
  • Ensures that the network infrastructure complies with industry standards and best practices.
  • Collaborates with other IT professionals to integrate network components, troubleshoot issues, and optimize network performance.
  • Creates and maintains network architecture diagrams and other documentation.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of full-time Network Engineer experience including performing systems maintenance, implementation, and support.
  • Bachelor's Degree from a fully accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • One of the following technical certifications within the past 5 years: CCNA, CCNE, CCNP, CCIE, CISSP.

  • Strong analytical skills for data traffic and system performance analysis.
