About the position

The Network Engineer - Facilities Support will provide design, management, and support services for facilities operations. This includes developing network designs, managing installation/construction services, and providing 2nd level support for service operations and data centers across the country. The role involves recommending initiatives and executing projects to meet business operational requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design station infrastructure in collaboration with contractors and engineers
  • Draw/design wired and wireless infrastructure, generate quotes, and PO's based on design and scope of work
  • Ensure on-time delivery of facility wiring by coordinating with contractors
  • Travel to sites to upgrade, install, test, and train users on new systems
  • Provide Level 2 helpdesk support for networked items, including computers, printers, handhelds, and servers
  • Support Cisco routers, switches, access points, and monitoring software
  • Provide phone switch support, including legacy systems, Cisco CME, and Enterprise voice
  • Maintain operational status of the GCY and DAL Data Centers
  • Coordinate facility moves, building access, and physical layout with Operations Staff
  • Coordinate voice and data network requirements and order circuits
  • Source local vendors to perform voice/data wiring
  • Design and manage computer rooms with necessary power, grounding, wall boards, and air conditioning, and work with vendors to deliver
  • Manage and coordinate with local vendors and Terminal Managers on voice and data jack locations, including printers and electrical outlet locations
  • Provide quality assurance and final validation of voice/data cabling and fiber as needed, including D-mark extensions, access points, paging horns, and additional office data/voice line runs
  • Manage vendors or provide services to terminate patch panels, 66 blocks, and wall jacks as needed
  • Perform site surveys for wireless access points and oversee installation
  • Design and specify racks, routers, switches, phone switches, and paging systems (horns and amplifiers)
  • Perform on-site configuration changes on Cisco switches, routers, and access points as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field
  • Relevant certifications, such as CCNA or CCNP
  • Experience with Meraki Access Points, Switches, MXs, VMware VeloCloud, Ekahau and wireless surveys
  • Strong understanding of data and voice wiring and hardware
  • Strong knowledge of telecommunication services
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge and experience supporting data and telecommunication equipment and functions
  • Ability to configure Cisco routers, switches, and Meraki wireless devices via CLI using Putty or TeraTerm
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio)
  • Ability to learn and support new applications
  • At least 4 years of experience with critical infrastructure systems, including new facility construction, mechanical and electrical upgrades of existing facilities, and other related construction work
  • At least 4 years of experience in customer-facing software technical support in a support organization
  • Ability and aptitude to work with construction firms regularly; understanding of standard practices in the construction industry
  • Experience in managing technical consultants and maintaining project schedules and budgets
  • Experience with issuing RFPs, writing purchase orders, and reviewing and approving invoices
  • Interface with managers to get approval for critical maintenance
  • Excellent project management skills, ability to manage both projects and project team members seamlessly, and ability to work across organizational boundaries to accomplish goals
  • Willingness and ability to travel (50% of the time) to remote site locations to manage and monitor overall progress on construction projects
  • Advanced hardware and software troubleshooting skills
  • Experience supporting enterprise software products
  • Knowledge of Windows operating systems, including installation, configuration, system administration, and troubleshooting procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively across IT management and functional business unit lines of management
  • Must possess leadership skills and be able to guide others
