About the position

The Network Engineer position is a long-term contract role based in Washington, DC, primarily focused on the planning, design, implementation, and management of networked systems for voice, data, and video transmission. The role requires a strong emphasis on network architecture, security, and performance monitoring, with responsibilities that include analyzing network requirements, configuring network devices, and ensuring compliance with security policies.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and define network systems requirements.
  • Implement solutions for network systems.
  • Plan and track projects and coordinate interagency efforts in networking, infrastructure, security, and interoperability.
  • Define and maintain network architecture and infrastructure.
  • Configure and optimize network servers, hubs, routers, and switches.
  • Analyze network workload and monitor network capacity and performance.
  • Diagnose and resolve network problems.
  • Develop network backup and recovery procedures.
  • Install, test, maintain, and upgrade network operating systems software.
  • Ensure the application of information security/information assurance policies in network services delivery.
  • Manage the agency's telephony infrastructure including VOiP and voice switching systems.
  • Implement and enforce policies and procedures in network and infrastructure management.

Requirements

  • Experience in the development, configuration, installation, and maintenance of networked systems including LANs, WANs, and Telephony Systems.
  • Experience with network standards, protocols, and procedures.
  • Experience in network architecture and topology, including transmission protocols and management.
  • Experience in performing routing networking configuration management functions.
  • Experience in network systems management methods including end-to-end systems performance monitoring.
  • Must have experience with using various tools, utilities, and appliances for network management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in network or system administration such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CISSP, MCSE, MCSA.
