About the position

The Network Engineer position at American Cyber Systems Inc. is a critical role within the WDTC Data Sciences Division (DSD), which provides essential Information System (IS) and Information Technology (IT) services to various divisions and Department of Defense (DOD) customers. The DSD Systems Architecture Branch encompasses several teams, including Cybersecurity, System Administration, Network Administration, Operational Support, and Software Development. The primary responsibility of the Network Engineer is to ensure that IT services are configured in accordance with DOD Secure Recommendation Guides (SRGs) and Secure Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs). This role requires adherence to DOD, US Army, and WDTC Security Policies and Plans, as well as documentation in line with DOD Configuration Control Board (CCB) requirements. The Network Engineer will be tasked with testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining IS operations for Dugway Proving Ground (DPG) and may also provide services at alternate locations in Salt Lake City and along the Wasatch Front. The Network Engineer will work closely with the DPG/WDTC data science support contract, utilizing a skill set that includes SNMP, Cisco technologies, and Network Access Control (NAC). The position demands a proactive approach to network administration and management, ensuring that all requests for assistance are logged and tracked through a government-approved trouble ticketing system. The engineer will be expected to complete a significant percentage of change/trouble tickets within specified timelines, monitor system traffic, manage system capacity, and recommend performance improvements to the Chief Information Officer (CIO). Additionally, the role involves the maintenance and troubleshooting of routers, switches, and security appliances, as well as the implementation of network security measures to protect clients and data systems from unauthorized activity. The Network Engineer will also be responsible for coordinating with the Network Enterprise Center (NEC) on cabling and fiber plant installations, configuring and maintaining wired and wireless network equipment, and ensuring the integrity of network documentation. This position requires a strong commitment to security, as the engineer will need to report any suspected intrusions or violations promptly and manage access for Virtual Private Network (VPN) users. Overall, the Network Engineer plays a vital role in maintaining the security and efficiency of the network infrastructure at DPG, contributing to the success of the DSD's mission.
