About the position

The Network Security Engineer position at Inferno Systems is designed for professionals with a strong background in network defense and offensive security techniques. This role involves supporting ongoing operations to secure customer networks, assisting penetration testers with vulnerability analysis and exploitation of edge network devices. The position offers an opportunity to transition from traditional network engineering into penetration testing, allowing engineers to enhance their offensive and defensive security skills using various tools and technologies.

Responsibilities

• Support ongoing operations to secure customer networks.
• Assist penetration testers with analysis of edge network devices.
• Conduct vulnerability analysis and exploitation of network devices.
• Monitor network activity and perform network packet inspection.
• Design and develop integrated network solutions using Linux and traditional network devices.

Requirements

• Minimum of 7+ years of experience as a Network Engineer, System Engineer, or in Cyber Security as a hands-on penetration tester.
• Proficiency in working in a Linux environment (CentOS, Ubuntu, Fedora, Solaris, Kali).
• Experience configuring small business or home network devices (e.g., wifi routers, switches).
• Comfortable working in a command-line environment (SSH, bash, telnet).
• Experience monitoring network activity, including packet inspection and traffic analysis.

Nice-to-haves

• Scripting skills in Python, Bash, and Perl, and familiarity with frameworks like Ansible.
• Understanding of Linux network security tools (e.g., Metasploit, Netcat, Nmap, iptables, BurpSuite).
• Experience with SIEM consoles such as Solarwinds or LogRhythm/Splunk.
• Knowledge of information security discipline via industry certifications (e.g., OSCP, CCSP, CISSP).
• Experience conducting incident response and malware mitigation.
