Newton is a global investment management firm owned by BNY, with offices in London, New York, Boston, San Francisco, and Tokyo. It provides investment services to institutional clients, including US and global pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, central banks, endowments, foundations, insurance companies, registered mutual funds, other pooled investment vehicles, and other institutions, and, via BNY Investments, to individuals. Newton uses an active, multidimensional, and engaged approach in striving to deliver attractive outcomes to those clients. Newton focuses on four key areas: Active Equities, Income, Absolute Return, and Multi-Asset Solutions. We are seeking a future team member for the role of Portfolio Manager - Small Cap to join our Equities Investment team. This role is located in Boston, MA - HYBRID. In this role, you'll make an impact by being a generalist long-only junior portfolio manager with a particular focus on small cap, with the ability to self-select securities with interest-sensitive business models. The team expects a number of original and analytically rigorous investment theses each year for inclusion into the portfolio(s) over a 3-5+ year horizon. The candidate will contribute to portfolio construction and will be involved with meeting clients and marketing. To be successful in this role, we are seeking an aligned investment philosophy. Our focus is on looking for opportunities amidst controversy. We aim to find quality businesses that, for whatever reason, have fallen out of favor and to make judgments as to whether and how long the business will remain impaired. The ideal candidate will be a problem solver, a lateral thinker with a desire to solve problems, and the ability to construct original angles on potential investment theses. A genuine team player is essential, as the candidate must be eager to collaborate with other teams across Newton's investment function and comfortable trusting others. Investors at Newton are open-minded, flexible, and emotionally robust. Exceptional communication skills are a must; the candidate should be a thoughtful and engaging presenter. Experience in external communication to existing and potential clients is desired, although not a requirement. Internally, the ideal candidate will be at ease debating their own investment ideas and the ideas of others. Qualifications include an exceptional academic record, and a CFA designation is desirable.
