About the position

The position is responsible for investigating, evaluating, reserving, negotiating, and resolving assigned Specialty Liability related Bodily Injury and Property Damage claims, or first party business property claims of moderate severity or complexity. This role provides quality claim handling throughout the claim life cycle, which includes customer contacts, coverage analysis, investigation, evaluation, reserving, negotiation, and resolution. The position requires maintaining full compliance with internal and external quality standards and state-specific regulations. The successful candidate will engage in timely coverage analysis and communication with insured parties based on the application of policy information, facts, or allegations of each case. They will consult with the Unit Manager on the use of Claim Coverage Counsel and investigate each claim through prompt contact with appropriate parties such as policyholders, claimants, law enforcement agencies, and medical providers to determine the extent of liability, damages, and contribution potential. The role also involves taking necessary statements, identifying resources for specific activities required to properly investigate claims, and coordinating the results of their efforts and findings. The candidate will verify the nature and extent of injury or property damage by obtaining and reviewing appropriate records and damages documentation. Effective diary management is crucial to ensure that all claims are handled timely. At required time intervals, the candidate will evaluate liability and damages exposure, establishing proper indemnity and expense reserves. They will be responsible for the prompt, cost-effective, and proper disposition of all claims within delegated authority, negotiating the disposition of claims with insureds and claimants or their representatives, and recognizing and implementing alternate means of resolution. Maintaining claim files, effective diary systems, and documenting claim file activities in accordance with established procedures is essential. The candidate may attend depositions and other legal proceedings as needed, updating appropriate parties as new facts become available and their impact on liability analysis and settlement options. They will recognize cases based on severity protocols to be referred timely to the next level claim professional or Major Case Unit, appropriately dealing with personal and confidential information. The role also includes fulfilling specific service commitments made to certain accounts and representing the company as a technical resource while ensuring quality customer service and file quality. The acquisition and maintenance of Insurance License(s) may be required to comply with state and Travelers requirements, with licenses generally needing to be obtained within three months of starting the job.
