About the position

The NSIP PhD Intern position at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) focuses on engaging students in research and development critical to national security, particularly in the fields of nuclear, chemistry, and biological technologies. Interns will work on challenging problems related to the prevention and countering of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, contributing to various focus areas such as applied radiation detection, analytical chemistry, and nuclear engineering. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply cutting-edge research to enhance national safety and security.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in research and development projects related to national security, energy, and science.
  • Engage in applied radiation detection and measurement of radiological signatures.
  • Conduct fundamental and applied research in analytical chemistry and instrumentation.
  • Develop integrated experimental and data analytics techniques for threat detection.
  • Research and analyze nuclear materials and processes.
  • Contribute to the design and development of advanced nuclear reactors and systems.
  • Support environmental assessment and remediation efforts.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program at an accredited college.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.3.
