About the position

The National Security Internship Program (NSIP) at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) offers undergraduate students the opportunity to engage in research and development focused on national security, energy, and science. Interns will work on critical issues related to the prevention and countering of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, with a focus on chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives measurement and materials characterization. The internship is available in various focus areas and may be conducted remotely or on campus, starting in May or June 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in research and development projects related to national security.
  • Engage in applied radiation detection and measurement.
  • Conduct analytical chemistry and instrumentation research.
  • Develop techniques for chemical and biological signatures detection.
  • Research nuclear materials and processes.
  • Contribute to nuclear engineering projects and safety analysis.
  • Support radionuclide monitoring and detection solutions.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma/GED or higher.
  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate student enrolled at an accredited college or university.
  • Must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.30.
