About the position

The Clinical Nurse Professional Development Educator (NPD) at Kennestone Hospital plays a crucial role in enhancing the educational activities and professional development of nursing staff. This position involves a collaborative approach to assess, identify, plan, implement, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate educational programs through a systems model. The NPD Educator utilizes tools, theories, skills, and knowledge specific to nursing to improve healthcare practices among learners, aligning with the Association of Nurse Professional Development (ANPD) Practice Model. The role is designed to foster continuous learning and growth, promote synergistic practices, and improve patient outcomes across the organization. In this capacity, the Clinical NPD Educator works closely with staff, leadership, faculty, and researchers to implement and evaluate professional development programs that enhance professional role competence. The educator serves as a learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, and advocate for the Nurse Professional Development specialty, ensuring that educational initiatives are evidence-based and aligned with Wellstar's Nursing Professional Practice Model. The NPD Practitioner also supports patient care by being an active member of an interdisciplinary team, ensuring that patients and their families receive high-quality, individualized care. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying practice gaps and educational needs, utilizing data to inform decisions and outcomes. The NPD Educator is responsible for establishing educational objectives, implementing educational plans, and evaluating the effectiveness of learning activities. Collaboration with various departments and stakeholders is essential to promote safe, quality patient care and to support the recruitment and retention of healthcare team members. The role also emphasizes the importance of professional development, ethical practice, and the integration of evidence-based practices into nursing education.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct learning needs assessments for target audiences.
  • Validate identified needs with learners, content experts, and nurse leaders.
  • Prioritize anticipated needs in alignment with system strategic goals.
  • Use data to identify future trends and issues in nursing practice.
  • Assess and identify practice gaps related to educational needs.
  • Determine needs from current issues and trends such as falls, infections, and regulatory changes.
  • Establish a plan that prescribes strategies and resources to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Implement educational plans and coordinate education activities.
  • Evaluate progress toward attainment of educational outcomes.
  • Collaborate with support departments to enhance educational contributions.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to nursing staff and leadership.
  • Facilitate performance improvement activities to promote safe patient care.
  • Ensure compliance with confidentiality and corporate requirements.
  • Participate in educational activities related to nursing practice and learner diversity.
  • Promote evidence-based practice and research in nursing education.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited/approved school of nursing.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact certification required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
  • Minimum 3 years of nursing practice experience required.
  • Experience with direct patient care is preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Advanced computer skills and ability to optimize technology for learning.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergencies.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning theories and training methodologies.
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to innovate in education.
