About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant (NP/PA) will provide comprehensive care to patients with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and other neurological conditions. The NP/PA will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including external stakeholders to deliver evidence-based assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, facilitating optimal patient outcomes. This role involves managing acute and chronic conditions, conducting patient and family education, participating in clinical research, and developing and maintaining positive relationships with referral sources and payers (including workers compensation).

Requirements

  • Completion of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program with a focus on adult or family practice; specialization in neurology or neurotrauma preferred.
  • Licensed as a NP or PA with the State of California.
  • BLS and ACLS certification required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant with a focus on neurotrauma or critical care preferred.
  • Experience in managing traumatic brain injuries and understanding of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology.
  • Experience and knowledge of worker's compensation rules and regulations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive physical and neurological assessments of patients with traumatic brain injuries and other neurological conditions.
  • Review and interpret diagnostic tests, including CT and MRI scans, to determine the extent of neurological conditions.
  • Develop differential diagnoses and collaborate with the healthcare team to establish appropriate treatment plans.
  • Initiate and manage treatment protocols for acute and chronic patients, including medication management and therapeutic interventions.
  • Perform necessary interventions within their scope of practice.
  • Monitor patients for signs of complications and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Educate patients and their families about treatment options, recovery processes, and rehabilitation.
  • Provide guidance on lifestyle modifications and coping strategies to enhance recovery.
  • Educate staff and peers on patient care management commensurate with their scope of practice.
  • Work closely with other members of the healthcare team and external stakeholders to facilitate coordinated patient care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and care conferences to discuss patient progress and adjust care plans as necessary.
  • Engage in clinical research related to traumatic brain injury and contribute to the development of evidence-based practices.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes within the neurotrauma unit.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessment, treatments, and outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
