About the position

The Nursing Assistant (NA) position at Sanford Health involves providing resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance in a long-term care setting. The role requires working under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) and involves a variety of tasks aimed at meeting the physical and psychological needs of residents. The NA is an integral part of the nursing team, responsible for following infection prevention protocols and ensuring a positive experience for residents during their care.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance with basic health care needs including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, and dressing.
  • Obtains and records vital signs and provides psychosocial support to assigned residents.
  • Assists residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  • Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, ensuring a positive dining experience for residents.
  • Aids providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed and documents resident interactions and care outcomes.
  • Communicates changes in residents' conditions and care-related concerns to the charge nurse.
  • Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and gathers vital signs.
  • Provides housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean living areas for residents.
  • Assists with wellness and recreational programs, encouraging resident participation.
  • May participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces as needed.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state certified CNA within four months of starting the position.
  • Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
  • Completes yearly department-specific competency testing and maintains continuing education credits, with a minimum of 12 hours required annually.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in long-term care settings.
  • Certification as an Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) in applicable states.
