About the position

The Occupancy Specialist is responsible for managing casework to assess the ongoing eligibility of participants in the Housing Choice Voucher program. This role involves conducting interviews, gathering data, and ensuring compliance with SNRHA policies and HUD regulations. The specialist will handle annual re-certifications, interim contracts, and prepare various reports related to the program.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews with families to calculate client rent portions and ensure proper documentation for adults and minors.
  • Perform annual and interim re-certifications to update family income, assets, and status for subsidized housing.
  • Verify client-provided information through third-party sources such as employers and health care providers.
  • Process contract paperwork for Housing Assistance payments after initial inspections.
  • Organize and maintain confidential client files and data in the Yardi database.
  • Review tenancy approval requests from landlords for completeness and accuracy.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One year of program eligibility experience in public sector, social services, or property management with a focus on interviewing and case management.
  • Experience working with homeless or vulnerable populations.
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, negotiation, problem-solving, crisis management, and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience with a housing agency.
  • Experience with Section 8 housing programs.
  • General knowledge of social services available to vulnerable populations.
  • Rent calculation certification.
