About the position

The Occupational Health Nurse II position at Abbott involves the independent administration of occupational health activities for employees in the Cardiac Rhythm Management division. The role requires in-depth knowledge of clinical occupational health nursing, regulations impacting the work site, and workforce health issues. The nurse will provide individualized care plans, promote health and disease prevention, and serve as a resource for occupational health staff.

Responsibilities

  • Administers the procedures of the occupational and environmental health and safety program consistent with the company's general policies concerning health services.
  • Assesses the health needs of employees and employee populations.
  • Performs all required medical surveillance activities.
  • Assesses and treats work-related illness and injuries.
  • Functions as a subject matter expert on case management including Worker's Compensation without lost time, work-related and personal restrictions, referrals.
  • Applies detailed knowledge of regulations impacting the work site and employee population to address health issues.
  • Stays current on legislation and regulations that impact the work environment.
  • Learns about employee population demographics and identifies key areas for education and intervention.
  • Implements timely, thorough programs and services that address employee health needs.
  • Dialogues with employees to identify suitable plans for intervention and/or resumed work activity.
  • Encourages employee engagement in appropriate interventions and follow-up.
  • Tracks progress and provides continued support.
  • Develops and evaluates clinical procedures and practice guidelines.
  • Develops and provides opportunities for in-service education/staff development and continuing professional education.
  • Provides leadership, direction, and technical counsel to members of the Occupational Health team.
  • Defines, plans, and organizes projects to achieve favorable outcomes.
  • Collaborates with upper management to manage project scope, cost, schedule, and resources.
  • Participates in clinical research in Occupational Health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Registered Professional Nurse with current State license to practice.
  • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN-S).
  • Certification in Case Management.
  • Detailed knowledge of Worker's Compensation regulations.
  • Detailed knowledge of OSHA and other federal regulations governing the workplace.
  • BLS/CPR certification.
  • Physical Assessment skills.
  • Phlebotomy skills.
  • CAOHC Certified.
  • Ability to perform audiometry testing.
  • NIOSH Trained to perform pulmonary function testing.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong written skills.
