About the position

The Ocean Export Agent is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate movement of freight and information within the Ocean Export Department, while providing exceptional customer service. This role focuses on managing a significant customer that handles over 20,000 shipments annually, requiring proficiency in data entry and documentation processes.

Responsibilities

  • Approve shipments for delivery to destination
  • Manage and handle cargo once it sails from the appropriate port
  • Enter and manage heavy documentation involving each shipment assigned
  • Work with the countries' policy to stay within guidelines
  • Enter data into the system for shipments, departures/arrivals, cargo, deliveries, etc.
  • Use Excel to receive workload for the day
  • Use Excel to manage and track loads/shipments
  • Handle minimal calls (approximately 5 a week)
  • Ensure smooth and timely freight process flow
  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry into the operational system
  • Track and trace Ocean Export files and reporting
  • Use Global Ocean Export Monitor on a daily basis
  • Ensure documents are timely sent and shipping notices communicated to overseas and customers
  • Ensure accurate and timely client and vendor billing
  • Interact with customers in arranging their international shipments
  • Contribute to maintaining good relationships with suppliers
  • Meet compliance with internal and external regulations
  • Understand department process flow and seek best practices for improvement
  • Ensure all customer standard operating procedures are in place and updated
  • Meet KPI standards in accordance with company procedures
  • Oversee communications and timely responses to emails and requests
  • Escalate problems to management when necessary
  • Promote compliance with company policies and regulations
  • Complete mandatory training when required
  • Adhere to the company's cultural attributes.

Requirements

  • Computer proficiency, especially in Excel
  • Typing ability with a minimum of 35 wpm
  • Bachelor's degree or military experience (highly preferred)
  • Good understanding of Expeditors' products and services
  • Understanding of ocean documentation process (a plus)
  • Hazardous Materials certification (preferred)
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Fluent in English.
