About the position

The University of North Dakota's Department of Atmospheric Sciences is seeking qualified applicants for an open rank faculty position, which may be tenure track or tenured, at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and service within the department, with a focus on developing a nationally/internationally recognized research portfolio. This position is fully remote, with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Teach up to 3 courses per year, with potential adjustments based on administrative duties or research load.
  • Conduct nationally/internationally-recognized independent research funded by external sources.
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, and broader community, including academic advising.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, or a closely-related field.
  • Evidence of the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students.
  • Strong writing and organizational skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Research alignment with UND Grand Challenge goals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current professor of any rank or post-doctoral fellow at a College/University.
  • Evidence of obtaining consistent external research funding.
  • Subject matter expertise in various atmospheric science fields such as aviation meteorology, climate dynamics, and machine learning applications.
  • Leadership experience in project management as a principal investigator or co-investigator.
