About the position

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) is seeking an Open Rank Professor to lead the Plant Transformation Core Research Facility (PTCRF). This tenure-track position involves directing a recognized plant transformation facility, focusing on research, service, and teaching in plant tissue culture and transformation. The role emphasizes developing a collaborative research program aimed at improving crop productivity and resilience through biotechnological approaches, while also contributing to teaching and outreach efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the Plant Transformation Core Research Facility (PTCRF) at UNL.
  • Establish a nationally/internationally recognized research program focused on crop improvement.
  • Conduct research on crop productivity, environmental resilience, and quality traits using biotechnological methods.
  • Teach courses related to crop genetic engineering and biotechnology, both in-person and online.
  • Deliver workshops to enhance partnerships and meet science literacy goals.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and leverage research centers at UNL.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Plant Biology, Agronomy, Horticulture, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, Entomology, Plant Pathology, or a related field.
  • Five years of post-Ph.D. academic and/or industrial experience.
  • Demonstrated success in optimizing plant transformation systems, preferably with corn, soybean, or related crops.
  • Ability to integrate modern crop improvement tools such as transgenesis and CRISPR gene editing.
  • Exceptional administrative skills including planning, organization, and problem-solving.
  • Expertise in molecular biology, plant gene expression, and gene editing technologies.
