About the position

The Open-Source Collector position at Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is designed for individuals who will support the Intelligence and Defense communities by discovering and synthesizing open-source data. The role involves creating reports, responding to requests for information, and building an independent program of discovery and reporting. Candidates will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on national safety and security through their contributions.

Responsibilities

  • Discover and synthesize open-source data to support intelligence and defense missions.
  • Create detailed reports from open-source information in response to requests for information (RFIs).
  • Implement open-source collection plans to gather relevant data.
  • Work independently with minimal guidance while adhering to established security protocols.
  • Build and maintain an independent program of discovery and reporting.

Requirements

  • US Citizen with active Top Secret clearance and willingness to submit to a polygraph.
  • Bachelor's degree with 8-10 years of relevant work experience as an intelligence analyst or linguist, or equivalent professional experience (at least 13 years) without a degree.
  • Experience in discovering and synthesizing open-source data.
  • Proven ability to create reports from open-source information.
  • Experience in creating and implementing open-source collection plans.
  • Knowledge of OSINT tradecraft.
  • Excellent writing skills with experience in writing detailed reports.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proven experience with statistical analysis and/or data science.
  • Knowledge of political, geopolitical, and historical contexts.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Chinese and/or Russian language abilities preferred, but not required.
