About the position

The Database Administrator role at Texas Health and Human Services Commission involves managing and maintaining Oracle databases, ensuring their performance, security, and availability. The position requires expertise in Oracle database versions, particularly version 19, and experience with Real Application Clusters (RAC) and Active Data Guard. The role also includes responsibilities for database administration on cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS, and requires on-call support for production and development systems.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain Oracle databases, including versions on Linux systems.
• Administer Oracle version 19 databases, Real Application Clusters (RAC), and Active Data Guard.
• Develop tools for administering multiple test and development database environments.
• Provide 24x7 on-call support for production and development database systems.
• Design, install, and maintain large databases.
• Set up infrastructure for databases in datacenters and cloud environments.
• Move live production, development, and testing databases across different physical sites.
• Administer Oracle databases on Oracle Exadata, including configuration and patching.
• Support migration and configuration of Oracle databases on AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Perform database refreshes/clones and support building development and testing databases.
• Troubleshoot database software and infrastructure issues, engaging vendors as necessary.
• Utilize tools such as Remedy, ITSM, PPM, and ServiceNow for database management.

Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of Oracle internal views, shell scripting, SQL, and PL/SQL scripting.
• Experience managing Oracle databases on Linux systems.
• Solid experience with Oracle version 19, RAC, and Active Data Guard.
• Experience in developing administration tools for large database environments.
• Experience providing 24x7 on-call support for database systems.
• Thorough knowledge of setting up database infrastructure in datacenters and cloud environments.
• Experience in migrating and configuring databases on AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with administration of MSSQL Server and EDB PostgreSQL Enterprise databases.
• Experience with database refreshes/clones and building development/testing databases.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for database software and infrastructure.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with cloud infrastructure beyond AWS.
• Familiarity with additional database management tools and software.
