The Organ Referral Specialist is responsible for the management of organ referrals from referring hospitals, conducting donor chart reviews through electronic medical record (EMR) access, providing logistics support, facilitating organ allocation (specifically kidneys and pancreas), receiving organ import offers, and maintaining communication between the organ procurement team, hospitals, transplant centers, professional colleagues, and the public. This role is critical in ensuring that potential organ donors are evaluated and that the donation process is handled with sensitivity and professionalism. In the essential job functions, the Organ Referral Specialist will manage and document organ referral calls from hospitals to evaluate potential donors, answer questions, and develop action plans in collaboration with the Administrator on Call (AOC), Family Services Coordinator (FSC), and Organ Procurement Transplant Coordinator (OPTC). The specialist will advocate for maintaining the option for donation by collaborating with hospital staff and physicians, determining plans of action for potential donor cases, and performing notifications and dispatch of onsite clinical staff, including arranging necessary transportation. The role also involves logistical support for the transportation of organs and associated samples, screening potential donors with physician partners, and facilitating communications regarding organ and tissue suitability. The Organ Referral Specialist will coordinate the allocation of kidneys and pancreas, manage the import of organs from outside the service area, and assist in the management of kidney preservation pumps. Additionally, the specialist will maintain EMR access in hospitals to assist with routine reviews and documentation practices, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, as well as organizational policies. Administrative responsibilities include completing donor case follow-ups and quality assurance tasks in a timely manner, maintaining compliance with documentation practices, and ensuring adherence to MTN policies and procedures. This position requires a strong commitment to ethical standards and the ability to work collaboratively in a high-pressure environment.
