About the position

The Hartford is seeking a highly skilled P&C Middle Market Underwriter to join our team. This role is pivotal in managing and underwriting a Middle Market book of business, where the selected candidate will be responsible for analyzing the agency book on a quarter-to-quarter basis for potential actions. The Underwriter will expertly apply all applicable underwriting guidelines when making decisions and will be capable of underwriting highly complex business with limited support from senior underwriters. This position requires infrequent referral activity to complete quotes, showcasing the candidate's thorough knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and governance. In addition to underwriting responsibilities, the Underwriter will engage in agency management, which includes creating, driving, and executing strategies for new and/or renewal accounts. This involves prospective book management, executing on the mix strategy, low strategy, territorial and agency sales plans, among others. The Underwriter will act as a trusted advisor and solution provider to brokers and agents, ensuring that all parties are aligned and informed throughout the underwriting process. Responsibilities

• Manage and underwrite a Middle Market book of business.

Requirements

• 5+ years of P&C Middle Market Broker-facing Carrier Underwriting experience required.
• Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations, and propose solutions.
