About the position

The Palo Verde Engineering Summer Internship is a unique opportunity for ABET accredited engineering students to gain hands-on experience in the energy sector. This paid 10-week program, running from May to July, is designed to immerse interns in real-world engineering challenges while providing them with the tools and support necessary to thrive in their roles. Interns will engage in meaningful individual and group projects, receiving guidance from dedicated managers and mentors throughout their internship. The program emphasizes professional development, offering opportunities to participate in company tours, networking events, and presentations to senior leadership, allowing interns to showcase their project results and receive valuable feedback. Interns will be involved in various tasks, including performing analyses and designs, assisting in research and documentation, and coordinating efforts with other departments to achieve project goals. The internship also includes exposure to the energy industry, providing insights into how energy companies operate and the various engineering career paths available within utility organizations. This program not only aims to enhance technical skills but also focuses on personal development, ensuring that interns leave with a comprehensive understanding of the energy sector and their potential roles within it.

Responsibilities

  • Performs simple to intermediate analysis and designs, assisting in preparing business/engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, and studies.
  • Assists in research, business documentation, studies, or technical reviews, conducting analyses, investigations, verifications, and summarizing results or findings in written reports or oral presentations.
  • Utilizes internal resources to learn business/engineering operations/functions and applies learning in completion of work assignments.
  • Coordinates efforts with other disciplines and/or departments in achieving project goals and task assignments.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university undergraduate program in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline.
  • Must show ongoing achievement in areas of study and training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum GPA of 3.2
  • Knowledge and ability to apply basic discipline engineering principles and practices.
  • Problem analysis/resolution techniques.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, practices, methods, and safety standards in the area of applicable engineering discipline.
