About the position

This is trained and experienced Emergency Medical Technician work performing advanced life-saving techniques in emergency situations, as well as support of firefighting activities in a non-combat role. Incumbents may act as lead worker with Emergency Medical Technician personnel who may be assigned to their vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Performs orderly and systematic evaluations and examinations of scenes and patients.
  • Provides care, treatment, and transport in accordance with the knowledge and skills of a certified Paramedic under the provisions of Chapter 401 F.S. and Florida Administrative Code 64J-1.
  • Administers advanced emergency medical procedures following approved protocols.
  • Responds to emergencies and performs related functions as required.
  • Supports firefighting activities in a non-combat role.
  • Completes reports and records.
  • Ensures that all supplies, equipment, and apparatus are sufficient, operational, and properly maintained.
  • Attends and participates in company drills and training sessions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certificate of Completion from a State of Florida EMS/HRS certified training center or equivalent as approved by EMS/HRS.
  • Current certification by the State of Florida as a Paramedic.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of an American Heart Association BLS card.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of an American Heart Association ACLS card.
  • E.V.O.C. certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • Possession of a State of Florida driver's license (Class E minimum).
  • Successful completion of Fire Academy and Florida State certification as a FFII may be required after hire at discretion of the Fire Chief.
