About the position

The Paramedic Supervisor at Priority Ambulance is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the operations and management of field staff in the Bessemer, AL area. This position entails a variety of responsibilities, including the recruitment, screening, hiring, and orientation of new field staff. The Paramedic Supervisor will also evaluate, coach, and discipline all field personnel to ensure high standards of performance and compliance with company policies. A key aspect of this role is the development and staffing of the master schedule, which includes managing call-in and fill-in positions, as well as tracking and monitoring payroll discrepancies in accordance with company policy. In addition to staffing responsibilities, the Paramedic Supervisor will serve as a point of contact for field crew questions and concerns regarding pay, benefits, and other personnel issues. This role also involves directing and leading support staff in the inventory, ordering, receiving, stocking, and issuing of medical, office, and shop equipment and supplies. The supervisor will work closely with outside vendors and fleet maintenance staff to ensure that all fleet vehicles are properly maintained, cleaned, and inspected. The Paramedic Supervisor is tasked with ensuring that all field staff maintain the necessary certifications and licenses for their positions, while also promoting a high level of customer service when interacting with patients, their families, co-responders, and other healthcare providers. This position requires collaboration with the Medical Director and quality improvement staff to evaluate and train field crews on protocol compliance and documentation practices. Furthermore, the supervisor will assist the Director of Operations in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding controlled substances and other operational standards. The role also includes performing daily inspections of the base or station for cleanliness and security, as well as leading public relations and community education initiatives sponsored by the company. The Paramedic Supervisor must exemplify professionalism and leadership, placing patient care excellence and safety as top priorities. This position is essential for maintaining the operational integrity and quality of emergency medical services provided by Priority Ambulance.

Responsibilities

  • Interview, screen, hire, and orient field staff.
  • Evaluate, coach, and discipline all field staff.
  • Develop and staff the master schedule, including call-in/fill-in positions.
  • Track and monitor payroll discrepancies per company policy.
  • Resolve field crew questions, concerns, or issues regarding pay, benefits, or personnel issues.
  • Direct and lead support staff in inventorying, ordering, receiving, stocking, and issuing medical, office, and shop equipment and supplies.
  • Oversee outside vendors and fleet maintenance staff in performing preventive maintenance, repairs, cleaning, and inspecting fleet vehicles.
  • Ensure all field staff maintain appropriate certification and licensure for their position.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service when dealing with patients, families, co-responders, and other healthcare providers.
  • Assist Medical Director and quality improvement staff in evaluation, training, and follow-up with field crews in protocol compliance and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding controlled substances and operational standards.

Requirements

  • Valid EMT certification and other required licenses as mandated by local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Experience in emergency medical services, with a focus on supervisory or leadership roles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage field staff and interact with patients and healthcare providers.
  • Ability to handle administrative tasks related to personnel issues, vehicle maintenance, and supply management.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing emergency medical services.
