The Paramedic functions semi-independently, under the direction of the Transfer RN, as integral part of the transfer team. Responsible for overflow calls that consist of patient intake calls, transport set up, acquiring bed assignment and ER outbound calls, data entry, faxing, discharge follow up, reporting, projects that impact and improve transfer center process and patient flow. Facilitate transfers, transport and provide reporting in an accurate and timely manner. Knowledge and necessary communications skills will be utilized to effectively meet the needs of transferring patients of all age groups and developmental levels.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the transfer center and community outreach.
  • Utilize communication skills, hearing, and multitasking effectively.
  • Plan and perform work according to department standards when no directions are given.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative, and the ability to work independently or cooperatively with other personnel.
  • Function effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands and deadlines.
  • Maintain emotional maturity and function effectively under stress.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an EMT-P training course approved under Arizona 9 A.A.C. 25, Articles 2, 4, and 5.
  • Triage course must be completed prior to 6 months and prior to taking the triage assignment.
  • ADHS Paramedic Certification or Arizona State Certified, BLS and ACLS.
  • PALS within 9 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of the principles of growth and development and the ability to assess data and identify patients' age-specific requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate Degree, Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in pre-hospital/emergency medical service, CCEMT-P.
  • Previous work experience in an Emergency Room.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Basic and Advanced Trauma Life Support.
  • National Licensure by the NREMT Board.
