The Paramedic position under the supervision of the Director of Ambulance Service is crucial for providing emergency health care to the residents and visitors of Jefferson County. This role involves responding to approximately 1600 calls annually from two stations, utilizing advanced medical equipment such as the Zoll Autopulse, Zoll Zvent, Stryker power cots, stairchairs, Ferno PowerTraxx stairchairs, and the Sapphire IV pump. The Paramedic is expected to perform a variety of emergency medical procedures, ensuring the highest level of care is delivered during critical situations. The essential functions of the Paramedic include performing all authorized activities as defined in K.S.A. 65-6121, which encompasses life-saving procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation for patients in cardiac arrest. The Paramedic is also responsible for executing advanced medical procedures under the guidance of licensed medical professionals, including venipuncture for blood sampling, initiating and maintaining intravenous infusions, gastric suction, endotracheal intubation, and administering various medications as necessary. These actions are performed both in emergency situations and during non-emergency transport, adhering to established medical protocols. In addition to direct patient care, the Paramedic is tasked with preparing daily reports and maintaining the statistical database to ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with medical standards. The role requires participation in meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices and protocols in emergency medical services. The Paramedic must possess a valid Kansas Drivers License and certification as a Kansas and/or National Mobile Intensive Care Technician, or the ability to obtain certification upon employment. This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities, allowing the Paramedic to focus solely on patient care and emergency response.
